Hear from the people behind the progress. Researchers, partners and funders share how GLISTEN is helping to shift the clinical research landscape—making it more inclusive, equitable, and locally driven.
The time is now.
"Over the last 20 years of working in Africa I have learned about the historical ways of how the science is done here and thought with my partners about opportunities to do this differently - thinking through how science is funded, where the ideas of science come from and who benefits from the science that we do. Through this I have learned that it is time for us to think about flipping this entire process on its head. ”

A great step.
“GLISTEN is addressing a very important need of non-communicable diseases which is a growing challenge in Africa. It is also promoting excellence and quality of clinical trials that are being done among neglected or vulnerable populations here in Africa. I think it is going to be a big solution to some of the problems we are dealing with.”
- DANIEL ATWINE Executive Director of SRF Research and Training Centres
Pioneering Change.
“Oftentimes we are appended to research ideas generated from the West. Sometimes they may not really match our own local needs. If we are able to have African scientists lead the work, it will address some of the inequities that we have been experiencing.
GLISTEN has assembled top scientists from various institutions in Africa, that are going to embrace research through a strategic plan. Commitment in terms of funding, being involved over time and being able to share the results of such research will be very impactful for African science going forward."
